Lemoncello Lore #3 - Unfortunate quotations, singing with the birds, and seeking revenge on Cormac Begley
& a few new shows to announce!
Hello everybody. Hope this Wednesday is being good to ya.
This week we are very happy to announce that we are supporting Cormac Begley on his upcoming shows in Vicar Street this Saturday April 26th (very sold out) and again on May 2nd in Cork Opera House (almost sold out - get on that Cork).
Our friendship with Cormac goes back a few years, namely at the first festival back after lockdown in 2021, a staggeringly sweltering day in Co. Meath. We were fairly rusty on the old stage chat, there was at least 50 stage lights blasting on us in the 29 degree heat, and being Irish and unable to comment on anything apart from the weather, I erupted ‘Laura's cooking like a wee chicken under the lights here’ which unfortunately lives on forever as a direct quote from me in the Hot Press review of the festival.
We had a lot of time to kill between our 10am soundcheck and 7pm stage time, so naturally enough at lunch we convinced Cormac to create a TikTok account. Some really compelling content on there from that day. Anyone able to explain the science behind not feeling someone licking your elbow if you don’t see them do it? Truly we are bringing up some of the most burning questions of the modern day.
It will be no surprise to anyone familiar with Cormac that he is a certified messer™. Last time we saw him at Other Voices in December, he picked us up in his Tesla, drove down the Main Street in Dingle at 5mph, all the windows down, blasting Sunflower and waving to the townsfolk as Laura in the front sank lower and lower into her seat:
To be honest this has waged a war between ourselves and Cormac. We need a way to get back at him for this so all ideas welcome please. Something public & humiliating as seen above preferred.
More gig news!
Very excited to announce a few more festivals we’ll be appearing at over the next month or two:
15 May: Cork Roots Festival. Delighted to be back cosy in Coughlans, maybe Ireland’s best intimate venue?
16 May: International Literature Festival Dublin ‘What makes a great song? The lyrics? Melody? Or is it something altogether more mysterious and elusive?’ plenty of songwriting ramblings to be expected at this. and by god do we love a ramble
23 May: Féile Binn Éadair, Abbey Tavern, Howth - Abbey Tavern dates back to the 16th century, a very iconic spot, much like ourselves. We’ll be doing a full band show at this with drummer Lorcan Byrne. This will be our final show in Dublin for 2025 - expect trialling of new songs that we are bursting to show you.
13 June: Doolin Folk Festival, Co. Clare - divilment galore.
14 June: Beyond The Pale, Glendalough - a stunning time for all!

Look I’m not gonna beat around the bush here, we’re working on a new album. Yes, yes yes. A big fat new one. It’s the most excited we have ever been about Lemoncello’s music and where it’s going. It’s big, it’s new, it’s got bangers, and we are recording digitally which, comparatively to the last album which we recorded & mixed entirely to tape, feels like a god damn playground. We are having the best time ever recording with our friend Ruth O’Mahony Brady. To be honest it’s been so much fun I’m very surprised there’s even music being made. There was a recent spell of good weather in Ireland, which resulted in a weeklong routine of morning mimosas. The first day we did it we got 2 songs down in one day, so naturally enough we didn’t want to break the trend.
studio morning mimosas with Ruth ~ a fearfully effective trend
The birds around the studio do be singing away in the evenings (maybe recording their own album?). They sound so good that for a take of a song, we decided to leave the fire exit door open and record them with us live on a room mic. Here’s a wee clip of that, a song called White Flag:
tunes with the birds
We’d love to share more of the album process with you all as it’s being created. If there’s anything in particular you’d be interested in seeing or knowing about the process of making an album let us know :)
RIGHT gotta go here and rehearse for Vicar Street on Saturday / Plot revenge on Cormac.
Til next time!
Claire
